Herb Garden behind the Cottage: Established perennials & recurring annuals include bay, rosemary, common sage, pineapple sage, common oregano, Greek oregano, chives, garlic, garlic chives, basil, Egyptian walking onions, & others. There are also 2 pink dogwood trees and a long-leaf pine tree inside the fenced garden area. The small building in the background is the "pumphouse" (which actually houses the water tank for the cottage; the pump itself is in a separate structure). |
| View of the House from the Cottage: This photo was taken from the cottage carport and may give you an idea how far apart the house & cottage are. I've used this particular photo because it was taken winter 2001-2002 -- before the woods between the 2 houses evolved into the young forest it is now. I probably don't have to say that the snow is an anomaly for this part of the country! |

| Belks' Landing on the Ogeechee River: The first 1000 feet of Belks' Landing Road lies along the west boundary of the main house lot. This photo was taken at Belks' Landing on the Ogeechee River, about 2 miles from the house. The home site itself is a sand ridge about 70 feet above the river, so there is no flooding problem. Additionally, both houses have a good view of the next-door neighbor's pond, though you can just barely see his house through winter's bare limbs). |

Sand Ridge Native Plants: Most folks think that nothing grows on a sand ridge. Are they ever mistaken! This plant is called "rattlesnake master," one of the many native plants that grow here. Its name came from Native Americans who used it to treat snakebite. During the past decade there have been almost no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers used on this property. One of the rewards is a treasure-trove of wonderful native plants that might have been discouraged by agressively trying to remove "weeds." |
